There are three primary beneficiaries of the Spring Fling Ultimate Fundraiser

PeninsulaBridge Program

IndependenceHigh School Athletics Program

The Kenny fund for student activities in Nature.

Each cause has its own needs and goals and for several years now all three have been involved in this tournament. As the TD I can’t show appreciation enough for the availability of field space and the ongoing generosity of the team at IndependenceHigh School. That being said, I am biased in favoring the Kenny fund.

In 1988 I was lucky enough to join a local high school science club trip to Death Valley California. This trip was one of many that the school was able to fund at the time and the destination grew to be very special for me.I have returned to Death Valley nearly every spring for the past 20 years with student and friends. As a science club spring break trip Death Valley offers a very unique perspective on how life evolves and adapts in the most extreme of environments. However, in the past 20 years the opportunity for public schools to afford the cost, liability, and time to plan and manage the logistics of a trip like this has significantly decreased. Many local public schools simply do not have the funding or capacity. And yet it is through experiences in nature we often learn great lessons.

The Kenny Fund is a non-profit start up, (looking for volunteers) which aims to provide destination, logistics, and curriculum planning as well as funding subsidies to local public schools for science club trips. The organization is in its infancy at this point, via the Spring Fling tourney, I am only able to subsidize one trip. However, all things must begin somewhere and this is a dream that I have fostered for a number of years now
